Why do we work in 18 kt gold?
Quality is the basis of our firm. There are companies on the market that work with 14 kt and 9kt gold. Solid 18kt gold is the most common in fine jewellery and has a long durability. We want your Prunés Jewellery pieces to be used daily, to last over time and to pass from generation to generation. Our aim is to offer you the best quality materials at a competitive price.
Where do the diamonds and gemstones we use in our pieces come from?
We carefully select gems and diamonds from our suppliers to ensure that they meet the highest quality standard in the market. The firm integrates a gemmology service with officially qualified professionals with a long experience and specialised in diamonds.
Diamonds: The 4 C's
Classic terminology used for diamond grading. These are the 4 determining characteristics for quantifying the value of a diamond and are of great importance to know when choosing a diamond.
- 1. Carats (weight): the weight of the diamond is expressed in carats and abbreviated ct. The equivalence is 1 carat = 0.20 g = 200 mg = 100 points. *See difference between (ct) as a unit of weight and (Kt) as a unit of purity of the gold grade.
- 2. Colour (colour): There is a wide variety of diamond colours on the market today. Colour is measured on a graded letter scale from D to Z. The closer to D, the higher the colour. The closer to D, the more colourless. The closer to Z, the more yellow. There are pink, red, blue, blue, green, yellow, orange and brown diamonds. Diamonds with intense colours are called "fancy colours". Depending on the colour, they are exceptional and incredibly rare, which is why they are so highly prized and valued.
- 3. Clarity: diamonds have impurities that are inherent to their formation process, called inclusions. Depending on the type, size and location, inclusions can influence the reflection of light through the diamond and affect its brilliance. Most of them are not visible to the naked eye. For their observation we use a 10x magnification magnifying glass, which is the standard magnification for the evaluation and grading of diamonds.
- 4. Cut: The quality of the cut is determined by the proportions, symmetry and polish. A well-cut diamond reflects almost all of the light that enters it through the crown to the contralateral end of the crown.
Diamond Certificates
Prunés Jewellery pieces with diamonds of 0.20 ct and above will be accompanied by a diamond certificate issued by accredited and internationally recognised organisations (GIA, HRD, IGI, JORGC or others).
Difference between carat as a unit of weight (ct) and carat as a purity of gold (kt):
The term carat is used both to represent the weight of gemstones (abbreviation ct, unit of weight), and to refer to the degree of purity of gold alloys (abbreviation K or Kt, unit of purity). The degree of purity is established by the ratio of pure gold to other metals. The pure gold content of gold alloys is expressed in karats or thousandths. Fine gold or pure gold is 24 carat or 1000/1000, so an 18-carat gold is 750/1000 parts or 3/4-part pure gold and 1/4-part other metals. 18 carat gold is the gold used for the production of fine quality jewellery. Prunés Jewellery pieces are made in 18 kt gold.
Differences between yellow gold, white gold and rose gold
The proportion of fine gold in all of them is the same, 750/1000, 18 kt, what varies is the composition of the other metals, the remaining 250/1000. In rose gold there is a higher proportion of copper and in white gold more platinum, silver and palladium.

¿How do I take care of my Prunés Jewellery piece?
To keep the pieces in good condition, it is advisable to keep them in their original box to avoid any kind of trauma that could damage them. If you keep the pieces in a jewellery box, try not to keep them in contact with each other to avoid scratches and scratches.
- Care of pieces made only of gold: they can be washed at home with a mild neutral soap and dried carefully with a cloth.
- Care of pieces with diamonds and gems: it is preferable to have them washed by a specialised service. You can contact us at info@prunesjewellery.com if you wish to have your diamond and gemstone pieces professionally cleaned.
- Care of pieces with elastic textile thread with gold endings: you can wash the thread of your bracelet or necklace at home with a mild neutral soap and let it dry in the air. Wash it as you would a delicate garment. Wear and tear and the passage of time can cause wear and tear on the textile thread. It is therefore possible to replace the textile thread of your bracelet or necklace if you wish. Please contact our customer service department at info@prunesjewellery.com to arrange the delivery and replacement of your bracelet or necklace. Cost of textile thread replacement 30 euros, plus shipping and handling.
- Care of pieces with pearls: gently wipe them with a cloth dampened with water and a drop of neutral soap, dry them by gently rubbing them with a dry cloth. Pearls are particularly delicate to traumatic actions. Avoid contact with chemical agents of any kind.
Jewellery pieces are intended for ornamental use. Treat them with care and keep them away from traumatic agents. Avoid contact with perfumes, creams and detergents. Sea water and chlorinated swimming pools can affect the pieces, causing them to lose their original shine. Be aware that repeated and sudden trauma can affect the fit of the gemstones and the clasps of the pieces.
