Inside Prunés:

CA L’ARAU

STORY OF A LEGACY

Prunés’ story is deeply connected with the emblematic Ca L’Arau, a historic building located in Sallent (Barcelona), at Plaza del Rey (Maria Freixau, in 1931) and built in 1931 by the modernist architect Alexandre Soler i March (1874-1949). This majestic building is a remarkable example of Catalan modernism, with details evoking Gothic style, such as its imposing windows and a facade decorated with glazed ceramic. The structure also features a distinctive tower on one of its corners, crowned with a lookout, adding a unique touch to its impressive presence.

The promoter of this work was Martí Arau Quintana (1857-1934), a renowned tailor and industrial philanthropist whose vision and generosity left an indelible mark on the community. Among his most notable contributions, Martí donated the Palau lands for the creation of the Park and the National Schools, projects that transformed the area and reinforced his legacy in the city. Over the years, Ca L’Arau underwent a careful restoration by its last owner, Enric Deseuras Martorano (1942-2014), restoring the building to its original splendor and preserving its historical significance.

Today, this building is not only an architectural symbol but also an integral part of Prunés' legacy, which continues to thrive in the same setting where it began, keeping alive the rich history and tradition that surrounds it.

The history of Ca L’Arau is intimately tied to fashion and, in particular, to the evolution of the prestigious jewelry brand Prunés. In the early 20th century, this house patented an innovative blue-dyed cotton fabric with blue and red trim, which became especially popular in workwear, under the name “blauet de Ca L’Arau.” This fabric, recognized worldwide, was instrumental in consolidating the house’s reputation and its impact on both textiles and design.

In homage to this industrial legacy and the history of its founders, the Prunés brand has dedicated part of its collection to pieces that incorporate the iconic blue-dyed cotton thread. These jewels are not only a tribute to the fabric that brought worldwide fame to Ca L’Arau but also a representation of the connection between past and present, blending the elegance of high jewelry with a historical and cultural symbol deeply rooted in the house’s tradition.

Thus, each piece in this special collection keeps alive the spirit of innovation and creativity that characterized the original founders of Ca L’Arau and strengthens Prunés’ commitment to its history and roots.
